Clissold Park Tennis Clubhouse

Location: London
Client: London Borough of Hackney
Architect: STUDIO E ARCHITECTS LTD – David Lloyd Jones

What started off as being a small disused corner of the park was transformed and constructed to form a fully functional contemporary tennis club house for all members of the public to enjoy. Particular emphasise was placed on blending the building into the surrounding parkland, without any disturbance to surrounding preservation order trees during its construction.

The cladding with Iroko battens from a sustainable source complimented the design to soften its impact on the surrounding landscape. The club now functions as a meeting place for tennis enthusiast, a function room for the public and a new tennis club house for the lawn Tennis association with full disabled access, lift, WC and showering facilities.

Garage Apartment – Park Village East

Location: London NW1
Client: Private
Architect: B Harrison

Our client achieved what would be considered the unachievable, planning permission to build a new 2 storey dwelling on Crown Estate property on the borders of Regents Park. The main criteria for the planners were that from the road the new dwelling would be similar in appearance to the single storey garage that it would replace.

A sloping garden facilitated the planners requirements yet provided the ability to construct a two storey dwelling that maximized the daylight from the glazed curtain walling at the rear and strategically placed roof lights.

The building is a Tardis, small and compact on the outside with surprisingly large open air conditioned spaces inside, including a single garage, all finished to the highest specification.

Whitechapel High Street

Location: London E1
Client: R Reiss and Sons
Architect: Clements and Porter

This redevelopment of two terraced properties at the edge of the City of London was to provide two ground floor retail units with basements, and eight, one and two bedroom high specification flats above, with the roof raised to incorporate flat eight within a new storey.

Due to a large extent of structural failure in both of these buildings, parts of which date back to the 18th century, extensive structural repairs were required prior to reinstatement work commencing.

We worked in partnership with the design team to provide a superbly finished development and, to the clients delight, full rental occupancy was achieved almost immediately after completion.
